EAL Shout-out!
First, I have to say CONGRATULATIONS! Since the start of the 2018-19 school year, I have watched over a dozen co-teaching pairs and YES! Greatness is happening! (Sorry… too many exclamation points & all-caps at the start of a message. What can I say? I am impressed!) Students are engaged, scaffolds are working, small groups stay on task, and teachers are modifying lessons according to their students’ needs. Way to go, AISC!

Last year, after countless hours of amazing work, the Teaching and Learning Leadership (TALL) Team adopted the Guidelines for Co-Teachers (Homeroom/Subject Area and EAL Teachers) Working Together to Support Students. These guidelines “clarifies the primary roles and responsibilities of teachers in the Co-Teaching for English Language Development collaborative cycle here at AISC.” In my review of these guidelines, I noticed something… the co-reflecting piece of the guidelines was missing.

So, with your help, a co-reflection section has been added to the 2018-19 Guidelines for Co-teaching (see pages 8 &9). You might be asking, “My help? How did I help?” Excellent question! At this year’s AFO, there was a co-teaching workshop. Remember? During that workshop, groups gave feedback on the 4 parts of co-teaching. For the co-reflecting piece, you answered the question, “Why is it important to reflect with your co-teacher?” Needless to say, you gave amazing answers. The ideas and most of the language in the co-reflecting section comes from the data collected at that co-teaching meet. So, thank you!

Moving forward, I’ll be working with the AISC coaches and various groups of AISC teachers to create several user-friendly co-teaching infographics based on these guidelines. If you are interested in being a part of the infographic design teams, let me know! I’ll be sending a call for participants after the October break.

Enjoy your time away! And, yes… way too many exclamation points this post. Yep… that’s how I roll these days.

Peace-
Sarah
