Early Release Professional Learning Strands for 2018-19
Developed by Learning Coaches and the Teaching and Learning Leadership, the purpose of the Professional Development Strands is to create personalized and relevant professional learning during dedicated time. EAL Shout-out!
Since we are so close to Spring Break, I'll make this quick!
Last March, TESOL International Association published The 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners (the title says it all). This short book concisely let's educators know the essentials. For example, the first principle is Know your learners. I think we would all agree that this is the centerpiece to all things teaching and learning. The other principles include creating conditions for learning, monitoring and assessing language development, working with colleagues, and the like. It's a quick read and I have a few copies if you'd like to take a look. Stop by any time!
And, don't miss out on this great opportunity to learn more about SIOP! As you know, the Office of Teaching & Learning is offering 2 blended learning opportunities for the 2019-20 school year. First, participants complete an online SIOP self-study at his/her own pace. Then, we meet as a group to unpack this amazing approach to planning & teaching. Details can be found here. So, if you are interested, please complete this survey by Monday, 8 April. I hope to see many of you there!
Enjoy this much deserved break!
Peace-
Sarah
