Service Learning Update a message from SEVAI Coordinator, Balajee Ginjapalle
  • Thank you Elementary School Teachers for replying to my email about your service learning unit and timelines. If you have not replied already, please do so and let me know your service learning unit and the tentative timeline for your service learning project before September 15.

  • The Middle School kicked off its first service visit to the Blue Cross on August 26. 30 students and four teachers (Jen Gold, Carlos Adelantado Faura, Lisa Daniels and Kimberly Cavender) had fun bathing, drying, powdering and feeding supplements to puppies and kittens. There are seven more trips planned for the year by the Middle School and the next trip is scheduled for 16 September.

  • 20 High School students will listen to Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi's talk on Child Slavery and Child Rights at Stella Maris College on September 13. Mr. Satyarthi is on a nationwide march to raise awareness among children about child labour and to promote the right of every child to be safe, free, and educated, over the next 5 years.

  • High School Discovery Day is on October 6. If you have an idea for a service project or need the help of an NGO, write to me at gbalajee@aischennai.org by September 20, 2017. Further updates on service projects for Discovery Day will be communicated via Ryan McFarland.

*UN International Peace Day at AISC

As in past years, AISC celebrates our community and international mindedness on UN International Peace Day on Friday, September 22 with a Parade of Nations that is the first hour of the school day. Different from other years, a normal school day will follow the Parade of Nations, as the Country Pavilions have moved to International Day on Saturday, September 16. The Parade of Nations will start out with the countries coming to the FAC Stage, and then the MS and HS students will proceed to the FAC Cafeteria, with the ES students remaining in the FAC Theater for a short program.  More on the specific AISC program will be shared by Kirsten Welbes and more information on the Parade of Nations will be shared by Todd Welbes.

Information on UN International Day of Peace
Each year the UN International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The theme for this year is Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.

The United Nations invites all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities during the Day and to otherwise commemorate the Day through education and public awareness on issues related to peace.

Please visit the linked website for resources.

Also please note the video that was created last year to help share and celebrate international mindedness.
