“I used to wait
for a sign,” she said, “before I did anything”. Then one night I had a
dream and an angel in black tights came to me and said, you can start any time
now, and then I said is this a sign? and the angel started laughing and I woke
up. Now, I think the whole world is filled with signs, but if there’s no
laughter. I know they’re not for me.”

Statement:
The purpose of
Vertical Curricular Teams is to create cross-sectional opportunities for
subject-specific discussions and provide greater curriculum and instruction
alignment EY-12. Vertical Teams are organized to help answer important
subject-area questions, as below, and to work on specific curriculum
development as determined by TALL,
cCore, and the Office of Teaching and Learning. Vertical Team membership
is determined by your principal and/or teaching assignment.
August 28nd, 3:45-5:00 Wednesday’s Meeting time will
be used to meet in newly formed Vertical Teams. To better understand how
the current curriculum work can be continued and reflected in the MSA

Professional Learning Strands 2019-2020
Developed by
Learning Coaches and the Teaching and Learning Leadership, the purpose of
the Professional Development Strands is to create personalized and relevant
professional learning during the dedicated time. The Strands were created
as a partnership with AISC Leadership and Learning Coaches for teaching faculty
to have time for a deep understanding of an educational topic with a consistent
group of colleagues.
There will
not be a Strand Roll Out presentation this year, individuals will sign up for
Strands (if they are not in pre-determined cNet Curriculum Development committees)
by early September. You may want to talk to your supervisor about how your
Strand choice could complement your PG&E goals.

Shout-out!
I am often asked to comment on AISC's English language learner
(ELL) growth story. And, to be honest, it's complicated. When people think of
an ELL growth story, they may think of ELLs gaining enough English language to
be socially and academically independent. Logically, we could then assume that an
ELL growth story would depict one of a shrinking population. And as we all
know, at AISC, this is not the case.
As with most schools I've worked with, AISC's ELL population is
static: as students exit the English as an Additional Language (EAL) program,
new students enter. However, at the end of each year, AISC is able to show ELL
growth by showcasing a shrinking population. And yet, each year, our ELL
population resets (see table below).

So, as we move forward with the 2019-20 school year, please
remember... even though our ELL population is on wash-rinse-repeat, each year
each individual student makes growth. And that growth stems from the amazing
work each of you do in the classroom every day. Come May 2020, like all passing
years, we will be able to celebrate the remarkable growth our ELLs have
achieved in just 10 months time.
Peace-
