Professional Learning Strands 2019-2020

Developed by Learning Coaches and the Teaching and Learning Leadership,  the purpose of the Professional Development Strands is to create personalized and relevant professional learning during the dedicated time.  The Strands were created as a partnership with AISC Leadership and Learning Coaches for teaching faculty to have time for a deep understanding of an educational topic with a consistent group of colleagues.

There will not be a Strand Roll Out presentation this year, individuals will sign up for Strands (if they are not in pre-determined cNet Curriculum Development committees) during the August Team and Committee Survey

Adaptive School Resource Corner
Productive group work is organized by three focus areas: facilitating groups, developing groups, and becoming a more skillful group member.

If you are a team leader, department head, and/or a teacher interested in developing productive groups come visit the coaching offices or reach out to the coach in your section for resources. Each coaching office has resources for developing and facilitating collaborative groups. Our resources include The Adaptive School Source Book & Learning Guide, Lemons to Lemonade: Resolving Problems in Meetings, Workshops, and PLCs, National School Reform protocols, and others. Additionally, coaches, as well as Agency Trainers and Trainers-in-Training (Joelle, Calley, and Walter) are willing to support the development of agendas and/or be a sounding board for the development of groups.

EAL Shout-out!
As one of the several “twobies” at AISC, I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful the start of this year has been. I have truly enjoyed not having to: 1) register our cat through the proper channels, 2), sort out my go-to grocery stores & water delivery, 3) wait for my AXIS Bank Card, 4) buy various vehicles, and probably the most important 5) track my shipment. And, those are just personal items! The list of items to organize on the school side of things… way too long to put here. Point being, I’m happy it’s year-two.

Year-two comes with a bit more clarity and vision of how I fit in at AISC (I’m assuming other twobies might feel the same way). So, I’d like to share a short list of what you might see me doing around campus:

  • Operationalizing the various resources that were created last year. Specifically: a co-teaching infographic, a collaborative teaching cycle bi-fold, a language philosophy, a translanguaging spectrum, and for parents the  EAL Webpage.
  • Creating co-teaching classroom lab workshops for grades 1 thru 8. With help for the AISC coaches, these labs will showcase the complete Collaborative Teaching Cycle.
  • Visiting various grade 9 & 10 classrooms to recognize the needs of our HS ELLs.
  • Managing WIDA testing (student WIDA scores are in PowerSchool!) and how these scores are used
  • Exploring ways to support all AISC teachers

For the most part, I hope to be in the classrooms more. So, that means, if any teacher would like me to visit any classroom, please reach out! I am more than happy to assist any teacher in any way I am able. Feel free to drop me a line or send a calendar invite (my calendar is always up-to-date). I will find a way to accommodate your needs.

Peace-
Sarah
