Professional Learning Strands 2019-2020

Developed by Learning Coaches and the Teaching and Learning Leadership,  the purpose of the Professional Development Strands is to create personalized and relevant professional learning during the dedicated time.  The Strands were created as a partnership with AISC Leadership and Learning Coaches for teaching faculty to have time for a deep understanding of an educational topic with a consistent group of colleagues.

There will not be a Strand Roll Out presentation this year, individuals will sign up for Strands (if they are not in pre-determined cNet Curriculum Development committees) by early September. You may want to talk to your supervisor about how your Strand choice could complement your PG&E goals.

EAL Shout-out!
Thank you all for your survey feedback from a few weeks back (if you haven’t completed the survey, please feel free to). From your feedback, People want to see more Research on Classroom Practices, Quick Strategies for Classroom Instruction, and PD. Great! I’m on it! Before I dig deep into those things, I’d like to share one more data piece on AISC’s ELL population…

As you may have guessed, AISC's ELL population is unique. In talking with Dr Gini Rojas and Ms Erin Kent, most international schools have bilingual programs where roughly 50% of the student population speaks a host country language. This is not the case at AISC. For one, we are not a bilingual school. We are a multilingual school and this is something to be celebrated! And two, the languages our ELLs bring to AISC are not necessarily supported in Chennai, let alone India. They do see that more schools are letting in-house EAL Teachers provide professional development to content and specialist teachers. Something we are working on here at AISC.

With all this, AISC teachers rise to the challenge. Our ELLs are lucky to be here.

Peace-
Sarah
