“What if we discover that the role of school is about relationships? What if learning starts with finding purpose " The Suzie Boss
Wednesday Early Release Professional Learning Day, April 8, 2020
The school building is closed, but professional learning for our teachers continues, virtually. Wednesday’s meeting is the last of the six Early Release Professional Learning Days devoted to Professional Development Strands.
The meeting times will be different as will the meeting places, however the profession learning will continue and for some groups, this will be a time for a celebration of learning, a final reflection, or last assignment of ongoing tasks to complete in preparation for next year.
Dedicated meeting time will be reserved for 3:30 - 5:00
Individual Agendas and meeting times will come from Strand Leaders
Refreshments will be self-provided in individual meeting locations

MAP Test UPDATE
After careful consideration, AISC has decided to not offer the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test this Spring. Recognizing the current Virtual Learning environment we are in, it seemed an undue burden on parents and students to give the MAP test virtually. In the event we return to campus, it was decided by the AISC leadership, we want to prioritize instructional time rather than time for standardized testing. We have full intentions of resuming MAP testing in the Fall of the 2020 academic year. Thank you in advance for your understanding of our decision. The MAP testing dates will be updated on the CoI Calendar on the AISC website. If you have any questions, please contact me.
PD Request UPDATE
Remember to use the PD Request form from the Teaching and Learning Office if you have a PD online class or training you would like to take. Located on the right toolbar of this blog.
EAL Shout-out!
A REMINDER!!! Spots are still available for next year’s SIOP Blended Learning opportunity! Here’s the overview. Here’s the indication of interest form. Express your interest before Monday, 6 April. Hope to see you there!
Continuing on the road of “Let’s make sure our ELLs can participate to their fullest”, here are this week’s suggestions:
- Provide opportunities for students to connect the content with their home country. Have students share home country videos on the same content in their home language. This is a great way for other students to see what it’s like to be an ELL at AISC.
- Ask students to comment on their transition to online learning. Now is a great time to celebrate completing week 2. Flipgrid is a great place to do this!
- Create choice boards for avenues to complete tasks. Even though the destination is the same, doesn’t mean students have to take the same path.
Continue your onward journey! I’m here if you need me. If you’d like to make an appointment, these times are always available.
Peace-
Sarah
